Conservatives within the Republican Party have long been extremely disappointed with current Speaker of the House John Boehner, in fact one could accurately say, they have always been disappointed with him. From his metro-sexual weeping on the House floor, to his comfortable palling around with President Obama, but it’s his actual actions that have offended the conservatives.
From his preemptive surrender on Obamacare, his ardent steadfast insistence on pushing amnesty for illegal aliens to his vicious and ruthless attacks on Tea Party Conservative which even went so far as to purge them from all committee leadership positions. John Boehner has defined himself not as a conservative or even a moderate Republican, but a Democrat wearing Republican clothing.
The majority of the Republican base is not middle of the road moderate, they are in fact conservatives. John Boehner and the Republican Establishment Leadership have abused, deceived and manipulated the Republican base to an unforgivable extent. They pander to the Conservative base while campaigning for office, and once safely in Congress proceed to ignore the wishes of their constitutes.
This is not the first time we have heard rumors of a movement to remove John Boehner from his position as Speaker of the House. These rumbling have been around pretty much since John Boehner was first elected to that position. Each time previously those rumors have quietly disappeared when time came for the rubber to meat the road.
Yet, here we are again, with those same rumors bubbling to the surface. 18 or 20 Conservative Republican Congressmen supposed working quietly in the house to unseat John Boehner. This time around (will it end up being any different?) there is even speculation of drafting Congressman Trey Gowdy as Boehner’s replacement.
A serious battle has begun to oust spineless Speaker of the House John Boehner, and big girl panties are not going to help him now.
Jan 6 is the day of reckoning for Boehner and some very powerful people behind the scenes are fed up with him. More vocal in their distaste are superstar conservative radio personalities Mark Levin and Sean Hannity. Hannity came out with his pick for a replacement Tuesday, but he was way behind Twitter users, who had Trey Gowdy bringing the “boom to the room” months ago. Hannity told Breitbart in an email:
“The American people need bold inspiring solutions to reverse the damaging policies of the President and his party. This is not a time for half measures. It’s time for new dynamic leadership in the House of Representatives. Trey Gowdy is my choice for speaker. He has the ability to articulate and implement the changes needed to get the country on the right path. Gowdy has a plan to balance the budget, secure the borders, push for energy independence and replace Obamacare with personal healthcare savings accounts. John Boehner has snubbed and ignored conservatives for too long as evidenced by the recent cromnibus budget deal he made with Obama, Reid and Hoyer. It’s time he step aside for the good of country and the conservative movement.”
Levin didn’t mention a replacement, but offered these comments on Facebook:
“GOP establishment a disastrous mess. Clean them out. Time for new leaders with conservative principles.”
“Boehner needs to go . . .”
One very serious problem seems to be associated with this, Trey Gowdy’s press spokesman has stated unequivalently, that Trey has no interests in being Speaker of the House. To my knowledge, on one has asked Trey Gowdy to his face is he would refuse to serve as Speaker of the House should he be offered that position.
I am no expert on Trey Gowdy, he’s not my congressman, hell, he’s not even in my state. But what I have seen of him, he seems to be a honest and principled individual with the integrity to fulfill any position of leadership for which he is elected. A former District Attorney with a no nonsense attitude that demands honesty, integrity and professionalism in service of the public good.
Is Trey Gowdy as conservative as those seeking to have him replace John Boehner? I honestly do not know. Would he fight the good fight that the Republican base expect, no demand him too? Again, I do not know. Mordor on the Potomac aka Washington DC is excessively lubricated by corrupt individuals pouring billions of dollars into the campaign coffers of anyone who will advance their agenda.
Politics is money and power, power and money. Money is raised by both parties by writing legislation that threatens one interest or another. Usually that legislation lives or dies based upon that amount of money that is raised by those interests either supporting that legislation or opposing it. Yes, you could call this political blackmail, well, if you were crass and foolish enough to speak the truth. Politicians just call it politics as usual.
Would a strongly conservative speaker of the House (perhaps Trey Gowdy) be able to function as Speaker of the House while dismantling this corrupt system, and not destroy the Republican Parties ability to campaign against a Democrat Party which has 100 percent sold it’s soul to the axiom that the end justifies the means? Would any individual, even being a man of principals and integrity, be able to withstand the overwhelming influence of corruption that flows like a tsunami through the corridors of Mordor on the Potomac?
There is no question that Trey Gowdy is a very intelligent individual, his stated desire to not be Speaker of the House may well be the strongest evidence of that intelligence. George Washington did not want to be President of the United States of America, perhaps the only man to ever serve in that office who did not want to be there. Yet, his tenure is widely regarded as the most successful, principled example of political integrity in American Political history.
True, the corruption that Mordor on the Potomac is currently drowning in did not exist to the extent that they do today. Even so, the prima facie evidence would seem to support the notion that a man of principals and integrity that does not wish to serve in a specific capacity is more likely to resist corruption and execute his duties faithfully than an individual whose desire to serve is predicated upon the desire and willingness to use that position of power and influence for his own personal profit.
So yes, let the movement to draft Trey Gowdy to serve as the next Speaker of the House move forward, perhaps the miracle of George Washington will repeat itself and the House of Representatives will find itself with a Speaker who will put the Constitution of the United States of America and the best interests of the United States of America and her people above the financial profits of himself and the other members of Congress.
Hey… what the hell, a guy can at least dream can’t he…
