Barbara Oakley writing for Psychology Today breaks the first rule of Fight Club, “Don’t talk about Fight Club”. OK, to be both fair and honest, the article was published on August 3, 2009, and Dr Oakley is no stranger to what she exposes. As a former translator under the Soviet regime she has first hand knowledge of that which she speaks, primarily, Marxist group think.
Professors in the humanities and social sciences are taken aback by the kinds of claims I’m making here. How could there possibly be such problems within a discipline—or multiple disciplines—without most academicians being aware of them? But, having worked among the Soviets, I know that large groups of very intelligent people can fall into a collective delusion that what they are doing in certain areas is the right thing, when it’s actually not the right thing at all. It’s rather like the Skinnerian viewpoint on psychology. For a full half century, psychologists insisted it wasn’t proper to posit anything going on inside people’s heads. Advances in psychology ground to a halt during that time, but it was impossible to convince mainstream psychologists that there was anything wrong to their approach. After all–everybody was using Skinner’s approach, and everybody couldn’t be wrong.
As far as investigating the dark side of the Major Issues, there’s a critically important concept that students of journalism are rarely taught. It’s easy to find any number of targets to write about in capitalist societies with an open press. But totalitarian governments are journalistic black holes. Journalists can tickle their self-righteous neurocircuitry every day (and many do), by exposing easy-to-find faults in democratic societies. But beyond their event horizon is the bigger story that often remains untold as it occurs—the horrific deaths of millions in totalitarian regimes like the former Soviet Union, Communist China, North Korea and, yes, Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. That’s why, when Robert Conquest was asked whether he wanted to retitle his updated The Great Terror, about the Soviet purges, his answer was: Yes, how about I Told You So, You Fucking Fools?
If you’re a journalist, want to help people and want to tell the truth, what truth are you going to tell? Why, the truth you think helps people, of course!
Technically, that’s the truth.
But it’s very different than the truth.
Many conservatives have been making this exact same case for, well decades now. Invariably the left accuses us of being tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists. Dr Oakley makes a number of extremely profound statements, though cloaks them with subtly. One she makes here, through anecdote, which is particularly poignant.
Although I’m a classical liberal myself, last semester my daughter and I got a chuckle at whatever Marxist howler her well-meaning professor spouted that day in her introductory sociology class. She’d have hardly gotten the A she received if she’d constantly challenged that establishment.
First, through personal association she points how just how prevalent Marxism is in America’s Academic circles, the professor referenced in this anecdote is not the exception to the rule, he is not an outlier. Secondly, her anecdote reveals a darker truth. Challenging the Marxist Indoctrination in America’s Colleges and Universities results in punishment.
Sadly though, Dr Oakley puts a happy smiling face on something that is genuinely evil. She portrays those pushing Marxism as either indoctrination or as propaganda as, well meaning though perhaps deluded individuals. Jake Tapper does the exact same thing when question regarding the Marxist bias of the Fifth Column Treasonous Media.
“Yes I do,” Tapper replied, “but I also think it’s more complicated than just liberal bias.”
“I think there are a lot of hard-working reporters in NYC and DC who have never fired a gun, or never worked a 9-5 manual labor job, or lived in the middle of the country, or worried about their next paycheck, or have anyone in their family who serves in the military and I think that creates a cultural bias,” he continued.
“But I also think there are a lot of reporters who work to counter that and understand the limitations of their own realities,” Tapper concluded. “But yes, I do think there is bias. Reluctant to name names though because I try to be collegial.”
Jake Tapper is seen by many on the right as a good and decent person making a living in the belly of the beast. That is certainly an image that his response conjures up in the imagination of those who read it. Here’s a man walking a fine line between telling the truth, and making personal enemies out of everyone he works with and for. As Dr Oakley said in the above article, Technically that may true, but it is not THE TRUTH.
The majority of the Fifth Column Treasonous Media and Academia believe that America has at long last entered into it’s Golden Age of Socialism/Marxism, the Great Marxist Utopia is finally dawning upon us, and their is really no reason to continue to keep their Marxist ideologies concealed from the average American anymore. The curtain is slowly being drawn back to revel their inner Joesph Stalin, and they believe that most American’s are either perfectly ok with that or, at a bare minimum just don’t care.
Is this reality? Or, is it a tin-foil hat conspiracy theory? No my friend, it genuinely is reality, you have been lied to and deceived, The Fifth Column Treasonous Media and Academia really are Marxist bastards engaged in subverting and overthrowing the United States Constitution, and like Robert Conquest, when asked whether he wanted to retitle his updated The Great Terror, about the Soviet purges, those of us on the right who have been trying to tell you this for decades have little choice but to respond with his exact same answer; Yes, how about I Told You So, You Fucking Fools?
