Looks like the smartest people in the room, have once again outsmarted themselves. While attempting to build a justifiable case for military intervention in Syria, John Kerry makes fools out of the Obamanation Administration.
He turned the ball over underneath his own basket and now here’s the easy lay-up.
Maybe the new White House strategy is to lose so much U.S. credibility through Obama and Kerry sounding like morons that Congress has no choice but to support bombing in order to get some of it back. Proposed White House sales pitch: “Vote yes and we’ll shut up.”
The government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday said it welcomed a Russian proposal to avert U.S. military strikes by having Damascus turn over control of its chemical weapons to international monitors.
The statement by Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem in Moscow offered the first indication that a diplomatic solution may be possible to the international standoff that has evolved since apparent chemical weapons attacks on rebel-held suburbs outside Damascus on August 21…
Moualem said Syria “welcomes the Russian initiative,” but did not say whether his country would agree to what Russia was asking. “We also welcome the wisdom of the Russian leadership, which is trying to prevent American aggression against our people,” Moulaem said.
Hours earlier, in London, Secretary of State John F. Kerry sketched out a similar transfer-of-control scenario, then dismissed it, after being asked by a reporter whether there was anything that Assad could do to avoid an attack. “Sure, he could turn over every bit of his weapons to the international community within the next week, without delay,” Kerry said. “But he isn’t about to.”
This proposal is being taken sufficiently seriously at the UN that Ban Ki-Moon called it something the Security Council might potentially unite around. So now, thanks to Kerry, Assad might be able to follow the Iranian nuclear script to stave off a U.S. attack — agree to “dialogue,” wrangle over inspections, and then stall, stall, stall while his enemy’s will to act gradually erodes. The State Department, backed into a corner by the boss’s idiocy, now has no choice but to agree to take a “hard look” at the proposal, but at this afternoon’s briefing the department’s line on what Kerry said is that .. yeah, he’s kind of an idiot:
As if John Kerry unintentionally exposing the Emperor as having no clothing on wasn’t bad enough, Hillary Clinton found that she was unable to prevent herself from throwing gasoline on an already raging inferno.
David Cameron sounds pretty excited about it too. Did Waffles bumble his way into a “solution” to the crisis? Here’s the presumptive Democratic nominee creating a little rhetorical space for her party to declare victory and walk away:
“If the regime immediately surrendered its stockpiles to international control, as was suggested by Secretary [John] Kerry and the Russians, that would be an important step,” Clinton said. “But this cannot be another excuse for delay or obstruction. Russia has to support the international community’s efforts sincerely, or be held to account.”
Clinton also defended Obama’s push for strikes as instrumental in making such a political settlement possible.
“It is very important to note that this discussion that has taken hold today, about potential international control over Syria’s stockpiles, only could take place in the context of a credible military threat by the United States to keep pressure on the Syrian government as well as those supporting Syria, like Russia,” she said.
GOP Rep. Mike Rogers, chair of the House Intel Committee and devout hawk, made the same point earlier. Apparently, if not for Obama’s heroic half-hearted saber-rattling, Assad would be free to flaunt his chemical weapons openly instead of pretending to turn them over while continuing to slaughter Sunnis en masse. There’s your Hillary 2016 foreign-policy bumper sticker.
This isn’t the only help she’s given to the White House on the big Syria push either; she called Schumer and Mark Pryor this past weekend to try to sell them on voting yes. Pryor, as far as I know, is still a firm no today on attacking.
Marxist Democrats like Hillary live in a betrayal based society, each person advances or ends their career based on their choices of whom to betray and when. They live with the absolutely knowledge that sooner or later someone is going to betray them as well, and the only defense against betrayal is to have the dirt on whomever it is that would profit the most from betraying you. John Kerry’s gaffe gave Hillary the opening she has been waiting for for the last 6 years. The opportunity to stick a knife in the back of the Obama supporting faction of the Marxist democrat organization that knocked her out of the race for the oval office in 2007.
Barack Insane Obama has been exposed as the fraud that he really is. Obama in reality is only a Marxist agitator whose goal was to destabilize the United States of America, following the blueprint laid out by Saul Alinsky, who accidentally stumbled his way into the office of the President of thew United States of America. He was never prepared to effectively lead America, because it was never his intention to lead America, rather his goal was to, in his own words, “Fundamentally Transform” America, and like the good little Marxist that he was, he carefully never told America that what he fully intended to transform America into, was a Marxist Utopia.
Now everything he worked so hard for is crumbling in his hands. Overreach combined with his own narcissistic arrogance threaten a unparallelled backlash against him and his Marxist/Leftist associates who have spent the last 90 years preparing for their soft Marxist coup and covert Fundamentally Transformation of America. Scandal aft6er scandal have rocked his administration despite the best efforts of the Fifth Column Treasonous Media to hush them up or downplay them.
Today, the Obamanation that Makes Desolate is reduced to this.
I imagine him phoning Putin to say he’ll accept the Russians’ lame charade on Syrian WMD if Moscow agrees to send Edward Snowden back, to which Putin naturally replies “Nyet, take it or leave it.” To which O, his second term crumbling around him, naturally says, “Okay.”
Waterloo for “smart power”:
President Obama on Monday took a sharp turn away from his “red line” threat to Syria on the eve of taking his case to the American people, saying in an interview with Fox News that he’s open to negotiations on an alternative plan that could avert a military strike…
“We will pursue this diplomatic track,” Obama told Fox News. “I fervently hope that this can be resolved in a non-military way.”…
“I welcome the possibility of the development,” he said. “We should explore and exhaust all avenues of diplomatic resolution to this.”
He said the U.S. should be able to get a “fairly rapid sense” of how serious the proposal is. “We are going to be immediately talking to the Russians and looking for some actual language they might be proposing,” he said.
Surreal as it may seem after Kerry’s gaffe heard ’round the world this morning, O actually wants the public to believe tonight that he kinda sorta intended this outcome. McCain and Graham issued a statement in the past hour demanding, not unreasonably, that Congress go ahead and vote to authorize force anyway, if only to increase Obama’s leverage with Syria and Russia. If we’re going to give Assad a chance to turn over his weapons, logically we want to show him that we mean business if he tries to stall. The problem with that, of course, is that it assumes Congress will vote yes when the whole point of O caving to this Russian scheme is that he knows the votes aren’t there — not only in the House, but maybe in the Democratic-controlled Senate too:
The Obama administration’s efforts to sway Congress to support military airstrikes against Syria suffered further setbacks Monday, raising serious doubts that the president will be able to muster the necessary support in either the House or Senate.
Three additional senators, Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., announced their opposition Monday, eliminating three potentially critical votes for the administration…
Additional Red State Democrats, including Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Mark Begich of Alaska, remain undecided. Both senators are up for re-election next year in states that Obama lost in the past two presidential elections.
As sure as the sun will rise in the east and set in the west you can bet that the Obamanation Administration will soon float the idea that this was Obama intention all along. The truth though, is that the Obama has hit the impeller, in this case, it was Vlad “The Impeller” Putin, and now the Obama is flying back at a terrible velocity, time for everyone to duck before they get splattered. The resulting stench will take generations to fade away.
