Well, no one can say that Candy Crowley failed to live up to expectations last night. Everyone expected her to do everything in her power to move heaven and earth to protect Barack Obama, and she did exactly that. From interrupting Mitt Romney 28 times verses the 9 times she interrupted Barack Obama, to actually disrespecting Mitt Romney by telling him to sit down.
Her bias was so obvious and blatant that it is likely to be compared to Joe Biden’s smirking in the VP debate, in fact some of the pundit class are already calling Candy Crowley to looser in last night’s debate.
By far the biggest loser of the debate (after my former boss, George W., that is) was Candy Crowley. She is one of the most seasoned political reporters in Washington, but she came very close to becoming a participant in the debate. At some points she almost lost control, then seemed to interrupt Romney more often than Obama. The president also was given more time to speak overall. Ms. Crowley’s decision to buttress Obama’s declaration that Romney was being dishonest on Libya, however, will go into the Republican Party’s media-bias file for decades to come. Enjoy that moment—you’ll be seeing it again and again for years.
And with that, we arrive at Candy Crowley’s crowning achievement of the night. In front of 60 million American viewers Candy Crowley co-signed one of Barack Obama’s biggest lies, the Rose Garden Defense. Candy recanted that signature after the debate, but make no mistake, she knew what she was doing. Tell the lie to 60 million but only admit it was a lie to 1 million.
In his actual Rose Garden speech this is what Barack Obama said.
Since our founding, the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence. None. The world must stand together to unequivocally reject these brutal acts.
First and foremost Obama declared the attack on Benghazi to be an act of senseless violence. He defined it in the preceding sentence as an act of senseless violence explicitly tied to the denigration of the Islamic faith.
In his speech before the United Nations Obama would go on the blame a video for the “Spontaneous” attack against the American Consulate in Benghazi, a charge that the entire Obama Administration would echo for 14 days before they could no longer conceal the truth.
Many on the left are displaying their willingness to ignore the inconvenient truths in their efforts to help protect Obama. The Fifth Column Treasonous Media are in fact doing an exceptional job of living up to the moniker of, Fifth Column Treasonous Media on this. CNN for example said this.
(CNN) — President Barack Obama said he identified the September 11 assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya as a terrorist attack within a day; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said it took two weeks.
The claim: “The day after the attack, governor, I stood in the Rose Garden and I told the American people in the world that we are going to find out exactly what happened,” Obama said. “That this was an act of terror and I also said that we’re going to hunt down those who committed this crime.”
The counterclaim: “It took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror,” Romney responded moments later.
The facts: On September 12, the day after the attack that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Obama said in comments in the Rose Garden that he had learned about the attack on the consulate the night before.
Fact Check: What about the security in Benghazi?
“Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe,” he said. “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.”
Business Insider had this load of Bullshit to spread…
Mitt Romney hit a speed bump in the debate when he was called out by both President Obama and Moderator Candy Crowley when he attempted to pounce on a perceived gaffe from the president.
The president said that he had called the attacks on Benghazi an act of terror the morning after the attack during the press briefing in the White House Rose Garden.
Romney, buying into the post-attack press on it, immediately disputed that.
Here’s the thing: Obama did refer to the attack as a terror incident. Here’s the choice quote, from the end of his speech:
No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.
While it is entirely true that Obama made a passing remark about terrorism during his Rose Garden speech, it is also true that it takes a willing and intentional desire to deceive to disassociate that passing reference which is in no way connected to any specific action from the preceding assertion that what happened to Ambassador Stevens and his staff at the Benghazi Consulate was a senseless act of violence caused by a video which is purported to be disrespectful of the Prophet Mohammad.
By every known and accepted definition on earth, act’s of Terrorism are never senseless acts of violence, they are always intentional acts of violence for the specific purpose of changing the religious or political direction of those against whom they are perpetrated. Their is nothing senseless involved in using death and destruction and the continued threat of more death and destruction in getting people to surrender their religious or political ideologies. Terrorism is nothing less than a form of warfare engaged against innocent civilians. It is a asymmetrical warfare to be sure, but it is warfare none the less.
For President Obama to have opened his Rose Garden speech by alluding to the attack on the American consulate as a senseless act of violence provoked by a disrespect of Islam is to indisputably render his later statement “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation…” to nothing more than a passing remark. As 14 days of the Obama administration attempting to convince America that the attack was a spontaneous attack resulting from a video nobody had seen clearly indicated. From Barack Obama, to Hillary Clinton to Susan Rice, the narrative was it was the video that provoked a spontaneous attack.
So, yes at long last CNN and Candy Crowley have pulled a full fledged graduation from the Joesph Goebbels School of Journalism, where telling the biggest lie the most times to the most people is considered true Journalism.
Ed Morrissey over at Hot Air nails this point home with his article about Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan calling Liar liar…
Even the debate moderator who claimed otherwise has since changed her tune, which leaves a pretty big opening for Republicans to address on Barack Obama’s response to the Benghazi attack — both in real terms and in the debate last night. After Candy Crowley cut off Mitt Romney by erroneously claiming that Obama had declared the act terrorism — which she recanted after the debate — most other fact checkers reached the opposite conclusion. Here’s Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post, for instance:
Update: American Crossroads dug up an admission by Jay Carney on September 20th that the administration had not called it an act of terror up to that point, emphases mine:
Q Can you — have you called it a terrorist attack before? Have you said that?
MR. CARNEY: I haven’t, but — I mean, people attacked our embassy. It’s an act of terror by definition.
Q Yes, I just hadn’t heard you –
MR. CARNEY: It doesn’t have to do with what date it occurred.
Q No, I just hadn’t heard the White House say that this was an act of terrorism or a terrorist attack. And I just –
MR. CARNEY: I don’t think the fact that we hadn’t is not — as our NCTC Director testified yesterday, a number of different elements appear to have been involved in the attack, including individuals connected to militant groups that are prevalent in eastern Libya, particularly in the Benghazi area. We are looking at indications that individuals involved in the attack may have had connections to al Qaeda or al Qaeda’s affiliates, in particular al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
That seems pretty conclusive.
Indeed, conclusive is exactly right, Obama lied, Crowley covered for him and then issued a section F page 21 of the NYSlimes styled retraction. She got the big lie out in front of 60 million people and made damned sure only a million or less would see the retraction.
